D.J. Bosse, native of Pretoria, South Africa, came to the US on a full tennis scholarship to Texas Tech at the age of 16. As the number one junior tennis player in South Africa, and without any financial resources, this was the opportunity which would open doors to an exciting tennis and business career.
DJ played professional tennis for 7 years on the ATP tour before retiring in 1994. His tennis career included 2 qualifying runs at the U.S. Open in 1990 and 1992. He also competed multiple times in Australian Open as well as Boston’s own Longwood.
Bosse left the tour with aspirations of developing a business which customized training programs for junior tennis players and aspiring pro’s world wide. He earned a reputation for his comprehensive, aggressive style which rounded out an athletes training to include not only physical conditioning but mental toughness and nutrition consulting as well. This concept was not available anywhere which is why in 2000 he founded his own company, ESS (Evolution Sports Science) in Waltham, MA. This human performance testing business was the first of its kind and was utilized by corporations, professional athletes such as professional skier, Eric Schlopy as well as golfer, Tom Sherer and individual clients.
Dedicated to continuous innovation in sports industry, DJ’s next venture was to develop and build a comprehensive family sports experience in a high end market to test the demand of this market. By 1999, he raised the funds necessary to build Bosse Sports in Sudbury, MA which set a new standard of programming, service and design. Forbes magazine, January 2007, listed Bosse Sports as “One of America’s most luxurious gyms”. One year after the doors opened to Bosse Sports he launched Spa and Style – a unique spa experience for his members and the community at large. DJ is ahead of the curve with this unique concept of something for everyone in the family at the same time.
DJ is currently expanding Bosse Sports and opening its second facility at Nouvelle-Natick, a residential/retail conglomerate anchored by giants such as Nordstrom’s and Neiman Marcus.
In 2004, DJ founded The Bosse Foundation. The Bosse Foundation is a 501C3 that provides the necessary financial resources, a customized training approach, technologically advanced facilities and premier training for highly talented junior tennis players in need of financial support.
DJ Bosse’s competitive nature makes him a fearless entrepreneur who is not afraid to take smart strategic risks short term to build long term value for his investors.
